Take Time to Rest

It's been a few weeks since we posted, sorry about that! I've been struggling on and off with a stomach bug and it threw me off course! I'm glad to be back though!!!

I came to the end of the week and felt like I could fall over. There had been so much going on. So much to do. I just kept giving, giving, giving, and trying to breathe in the midst of the pressure and overwhelming to do list.

I hadn't slept well in weeks and my body was past the point of return, it was too tired to continue.

As I laid in bed I realized I had done it again. I had failed to take care of myself amongst the busy days. I had failed to find time to rest. I couldn't go on.

This week, no matter what you face, remember that we are simply humans. We cannot keep going, going, going at the speed of rush without resting and expect no consequences.

When the days push and pull and knock you over, remember the importance of rest. It is good for our body, mind, and spirit. It is necessary. It is good.

I don't know how it will look in your life, in your season, in your family. That's for you to consider.

For me, it means going to bed early and laying down for at least 30 minutes at some point during the day. It means taking it easy after dinner and just spending time with the five most important people in my life, playing games, reading books, being close to each other without anything pulling away my focus. It means maintaining a slower pace on the weekends. It means reading a book while I take my nightly watch in the hallway with little ones who like to get out of bed. It means drinking hot tea at the table while looking out the window as the earth wakes up after its wintry slumber.

Rest means fighting for time to just be without doing.

Whatever it looks like in your life, I simply urge you to take the time to pursue rest.
