Chase Joy

I shared at book club last night a quote from a book I'm reading right now called Bound by Guilt. In it a teenaged foster girl, Roxi, who doesn't know what safety and love feels like is beginning to feel comfortable with a couple she is staying with it. Roxi and Jan, the older woman who picked her up off of the streets, are getting to know each other while being stranded in a cabin due to a rainstorm.

Jan laughed, and Roxi decided she liked the sound of it. Not high-pitched or cackly like some women. It was a laugh that came easily, like she’d had practice perfecting it.

I paused when I read this. I want to laugh enough to perfect it. I want my laugh to give comfort. I want to my kids to know my laugh. I want, in 20 years, to laugh with my grandchildren and be a woman characterized by joy.

I need to chase joy.

I won't just find it. I need to chase it. I need to pursue it. I need to go to the Source of joy and allow Him to fill my heart so much so that the joy overflows to everyone around me and every part of me, especially my laughter and smile.

Let's work on perfecting our laughs and chasing joy!

I'm a day late for this week's Monday Inspiration, sorry! You can see what my Monday looked like here.
